Choosing the right system
Pipe insulation helps reduce heat transfer, control condensation and protect people from hot surfaces. The right solution depends on the pipe temperature, location, moisture exposure and project requirements.
Protective cladding does not replace insulation. It forms the outer layer that helps protect the insulation from weather, impact and everyday wear.
What to consider
Operating temperature
Confirm the normal and maximum temperatures of the pipework.
Indoor or outdoor
Outdoor systems require greater protection from weather and water ingress.
Moisture exposure
Chilled pipes and humid environments require careful condensation control.
Pipe size
Record the pipe outside diameter and the required insulation thickness.
Site conditions
Consider coastal exposure, chemicals, washdown areas and physical impact.

Measuring insulated pipework
Cladding is sized to fit the finished insulated diameter, not only the bare pipe.
Finished diameter = Pipe outside diameter + (2 × insulation thickness)
Measure carefully and allow for any existing finishes, overlaps or project-specific installation requirements.
Does metal cladding provide insulation?
No. Cladding protects the insulation underneath but does not replace the insulation material.
How do I calculate the finished pipe diameter?
Add twice the insulation thickness to the outside diameter of the bare pipe.
