How to Measure Insulated Pipework for Cladding
Learn how to measure straight pipes, 90-degree elbows, valves and flanges for correctly sized Clickclad covers.
Before you measure
Accurate measurements help ensure your cladding fits correctly. Record all dimensions in millimetres and include the pipe type, pipe outside diameter, insulation type and insulation thickness.
If the pipe is already insulated, measure around the outside of the insulation using a flexible tape.
Straight Pipe Measurements
For an uninsulated pipe, provide the pipe outside diameter and insulation thickness. The finished insulated diameter is calculated as: Finished diameter = Pipe OD + (2 × insulation thickness) For an insulated pipe, measure the total outside circumference, including the insulation. *Minimum diameter we cater for is 75mm. Example: Pipe OD = 20mm. Insulation wall 25mm total diameter is 25+20+25= 70 which is to small. *So use 25mm thickness wall insulation with 25mm Pipe OD [25x25x25=75mm]

90-Degree Elbow Measurements
Measure horizontal dimension A and vertical dimension B. Use the smaller measurement as the elbow radius measurement (R). For steel and stainless steel pipes, measure from the weld lines. For copper pipes, measure from the inner joint lines.

Valve and Flange Covers
Choose the most suitable cover shape: Cylinder, Flat Top or Box. Then measure the overall width, height and length of the insulated valve or flange. Allow an additional 15-25 mm of clearance and include any handles, accessories, walls or nearby pipework that may affect the fit.
